British art student Kerry Howell's graduate project was a series of five necklaces made from human hair. Called "Attraction/Aversion", the collection explores "how people can feel these seemingly opposing emotional responses simultaneously." She wanted people to be attracted to the pieces from a distance, thinking they look beautiful and intricate, but when they realize what the necklaces are made of, their reaction immediately changes to that of repulse and disgust.
Taking between 40-60 hours to make, the necklaces are made out of the artist's own hair and also hair from a friend's mother. This project has won her an award from the Museum of Domestic Design and Architecture.
Fahionista.com interviewed the artist about her project, which can be viewed HERE.
Would you wear a necklace made out of human hair? x
